“If music be the food of love, play on,
Give me excess of it; that surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.”
– William Shakespeare, Twelfth Night
This weekend I was sitting outside at a small cafe that was playing music loudly enough for passersby to enjoy, but difficult enough to carry on a conversation. Most of the music was from the 1980’s and ’90’s – classic rock and roll mixed with pop and dance music. It was very interesting to watch people stop on the footpath and dance to the music or sing aloud to their companion(s). The music created obvious enjoyment and probably some stress release. It reminded me that when I have to deep-clean my house next weekend after a long trudge through the rest of the work-week that I should turn up my music, smile, dance, sing and enjoy the experience.
